At the Cinema ❤ After Earth

Well, it's date night.  And I had a date.  I had a date with Will Smith.  And his son Jaden Smith?  That's kind of gross.
We all went to the movies to see After Earth, Will Smith's latest sci-fi film.  And it was a GREAT way to spend a Friday night.  I got there super early to beat the crowds.  Umm, there weren't really crowds, but I got the best seat in the house.  I attribute this to the fact that today was actually gorgeous and although you would think this would be a normal occurrence in June.... well, I live in Oregon and it's been gray and raining as of late.  So I'm really hoping everyone is not going to see After Earth because I heard there are some bad reviews out there because I think we should all support Will Smith because he is one of my favorite actors.

So the skinny...
Was it Will Smith's best movie?  No.  Was Jaden Smith amazing?  No.  Were the accents a little weird?  Yes.  But was it a fun entertaining movie?  Heck yes!!!  Should you see it even though it wasn't perfect?  Yes.
The Basics?
A famous warrior Dad (Smith) has a strained relationship with his son who wants to be just like his Dad.  They crash land on Earth, no longer inhabitable by humans where everything has evolved to kill humans.  Will they make it out alive?
So tell me did you see After Earth?  What did you think?

TGIF (tomorrow) at least

So wow, I know Monday was Memorial Day and most people had the day off (minus Warren and I chose to work because I'm saving up my PTO for some fabulous vacations)... so this really should feel like a short week... I don't know about y'all but including today... it's seemed quite looooong.
But the good news is that tomorrow is Friday.  Congratulations... you made it to another weekend!!! :)  So how are you going to celebrate?
I fully intend to see Will Smith's new movie After Earth.  I'm a pretty big Will Smith fan and try to push all of the really tacky rumors about Will Smith to the back of my mind because I just don't want to believe they are true... even though... I think they are probably true.  I even had a friend who had a friend who worked for the Smith's family publicist who confirmed the loving family thing is all a show and they are so difficult to even get to appear together at all.  A little depressing, right?  BUT this will not ruin the new sci-fi movie for me.  (BTW, I love how Will Smith does so many sci-fi films.  I'm not even this huge sci-fi person, but I always LOVE his. swoon)  And After Earth also has Jaden Smith in it!  Even better, it's a family affair.  (Is the reason I'm not famous because I don't have a celebrity parent??? I KNEW IT.  I blame my parents.  100%.  But technically I guess I would not have been born IF it wasn't to my at least semi-awesome non-famous parents... so I'll take it.  I mean, I would definitely rather have been born.  And otherwise I would not have this AMAZING blog.... hahaha.  I'm laughing too.)
So who else is seeing After Earth this weekend?

Red Box It ❤ Promised Land

Well to start Matt Damon is in this movie and I think that's pretty much a good enough reason to watch this movie.  The plot line also intrigued me.
The Basics?
An up and coming business exec (Damon) comes to buy out a small town, not unlike the small town he grew up in.  This is what he does.  He comes into small towns, representing Global and leases all the land for natural gas production.  He's done it time and time again, why would this little town be any different?  But for some reason it is.  And we get to see what happens.
I feel like I hit the Red Box lottery this weekend.  I watched this movie Promised Land and Playing for Keeps and they were both excellent movies.  They have a little depth, especially Promised Land.  There is a lesson to be learned and a story to be told.  Promised Land is definitely a great deal at the Red Box.
Have you seen Promised Land?  What did you think?

Red Box It ❤ Playing for Keeps

I absolutely LOVED this family-friendly flick.

It stars Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel as the exes sharing son Noah Lomax. The neighborhood is filled with a host of ridiculous suburbanites: Dennis Quad, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Judy Greer.

I wasn't expecting much (this always helps) but this movie was actually really really good.  Check it out and see for yourself.

The Basics
❤Absentee father (Butler) shows back up in his son's life and this time he's "Playing for Keeps" and hopes to get his family back

I love this little lime green shrug.  The detailing on the back is especially adorable.  I'm also loving my new little spring floral purse from Target.  It's the perfect size for a weekend outing where you don't need to haul around your weekday bag. :)

Have a wonderful week honeybees!

On the Tube ♥ Revenge Season Finale

On Sunday it was Revenge time, 2 hours of Revenge was a great way to end season 2!  This has become one of my favorite shows... it might even be my favorite show.
Now I am definitely not happy about the person who died during the season finale... but I'm not going to ruin it in case you haven't seen the episode yet.  BUT I do remember when Victoria supposedly died last year... so who knows right?
Conrad Grayson has somehow managed to squirm his way into political office... really?!?
Then the initiative strikes again...
This time with a big explosion at Grayson Global.  Who to blame, but Aiden?  (Well, at least it's convenient to pin it on him.)
There is a whole lot of other drama too... Emily finds out Aiden killed her mentor.  Our favorite hacker Nolan gets hauled off to jail.  And does Jack find out who Emily really is?

I'm sooooo going to miss Revenge this summer.  Do we really need to have summer breaks?  It's going to be a long while until we get to see Revenge again the fall and I for one cannot wait.

Red Box It ♥ The Master

Red Box It... OR MAYBE NOT...
This was one crazy movie.  I mean it was interesting.  And you do get to find out a little more about the Founder of Scientology Dr. Hubbard (even though supposedly it's only very loosely based on the Scientology founder).  But overall, this movie was just bizarre.  I wouldn't recommend it... but if you do want to see it, definitely a cheap rental is the way to go!
The acting was great, however, with Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams in the leading roles.

RedBox It ♥ Trouble with the Curve

I absolutely LOVED this movie and this is coming from someone who could careless about baseball, but this was a great movie.  It's so good I would consider purchasing it for my home DVD collection.  (Yes, I still watch DVDs and don't have a Blu-Ray)
The movie starred Clint Eastwood (always amazing), Amy Adams (pretty awesome) and Justin Timberlake (great too?).
It was a heartwarming movie (I'm always a fan) about the relationship between a father (Eastwood) and daughter (Adams).  A tiny bit of love and scouting for major league baseball.  Go rent it, on the double.

At the Cinema ♥ Warm Bodies

It's at the cinema and it's the cheap cinema!  I went to see Warm Bodies this weekend at Valley Theater.  Movies are only $4 (cash only). :)
This was definitely an entertaining cheesy Zombie movie.  Just to be clear, I don't really actually watch Zombie movies, but my guess is that this is the romantic comedy version of a Zombie movie.  And I honestly don't feel like I've been watching enough romantic comedies lately!  The movie starred Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer.  They were both excellent.  Nicholas Hoult did a great job of walking like a zombie!

So keep you expectations low, Warm Bodies is not life changing... BUT it's a fun little movie about how love conquerors all (small eye roll here). :)
