Hello ❤

I have not been updating my blog (major fail)... I have been busy getting ready for the Unity conference in Las Vegas.  It's a big journalism conference for minority journalists and it only happens every 4 years.  But now I'm here, hanging out at Mandalay Bay and I think I'll actually be able to get quite a bit of blogging done and get a bit caught up!  (PHEW)

Neglected little blog!

I have so been neglecting my blog.  I've just been crazy busy!  I'm sorry little blog.  I promise to do better very soon!  (On a tiny side note, I cannot believe all this Kristen Stewart/Robert Pattinson business!)

Spotted ❤ An urban birthday

We dined at Urban Fondue for my madre's birthday!  I had never done the full meal fondue thing (you know where you even cook the meat) and it was was AMAZING.  We got the fondue experience.  You start with delicious cheese fondue (we got the smoked cheddar--you can always get a great deal on this during happy hour at Bartini that is right next door).  Next you get an entree.  We did the Urban Fondue for 2 which I highly recommend because you get to pretty try much everything... and I did.  And it was a good thing because I was planning on the steak and lobster.... AND I realized I don't really like my steak boiled.  I definitely like my steak grilled!  I only had one small bite of the steak.  But I love the lobster.  It was so delicious!  I was actually a big fan of all the seafood (scallops are never my fave, but they are pretty good with the delicious dipping sauces).  I think this may have to do with the fact that you are basically boiling your meat in the fondue pot.  So ie seafood tastes much better boiled than other meats (personally).  You also get to pick the kind of "cooking style" for your meat.  We picked the roasted beef, which was soooo yummy!  They gave us some veggies that were absolutely delicious in the roasted beef stock.  And the dipping sauces pretty much make the whole thing.  We had the grilled asparagus as our side (which is included)--so yum and also available at Bartini happy hour.  Then to finish, it was chocolate butterscotch fondue (mom's choice)... you couldn't really taste the butterscotch, I thought I did once, but it could have just been in my head.  But the chocolate was so good, I didn't really miss the butterscotch at all!  It was most definitely a fabulous birthday dinner.  :)  (But no singing happy birthdays... if you're into that)

Red box it ❤ Man on a ledge

The movie doesn't take long to get you right where you expect with a man on a ledge.  It's a very high ledge towering above on a NYC street.  Then we head back to see where it all started.   And the story was much more interesting than I anticipated!  I also appreciated the little bits of humor.  I'm happy to report this movie is well worth the Red Box price!

Zen ❤

My realization of the moment...

Sometimes we're looking for what we want in the wrong place!

and that makes it very difficult to find it!

On the tube ❤ Slumdog Millionaire

I know this is sad, but I finally saw this movie on TV. And I don't even have cable, we're talking about regular TV here.  ION is currently showing Slumdog Millionaire.  I can definitely see why this movie touched people's hearts. It was much more than just another couple hours of entertainment.

News to Use ❤ Celebrate by giving away money?

This such a great story!  I was feeling a little down and this article helped me snap right out of it.  It's so inspiring.  This man is truly living out "love thy neighbor as yourself."  He gave money to strangers as one of 65 random acts of kindness to celebrate his 65th birthday. :)

Make it Up ❤ Smoked

Urban decay just launched their newest eye shadow palette.  I'm a huge fan of Urban Decay's eye shadow palettes because you get tons of fun shadows to play with that are excellent quality.  It's also a much more reasonable price point per shadow for department store quality make-up.  I obviously haven't tried it out yet, but it's definitely on my shopping list!  Have you gotten Urban Decay's Smoked palette?  What do you think?

Make & Take ❤ A little piggy

This is a tiny pig that I crocheted.  I love making little animals.  They are quick, easy and cute.  It's nice to be able to do a project that is easy to finish.  They also make great little gifts.

Your face ❤ Intensely Clinique

I love Clinique's newish intense quickliner.  I am a big fan of Clinique's regular quickliner too.  I find it's one of the few eyeliners that does not transfer.  (Basically, it doesn't end up on the upper part of my eye and it stays mostly where it's supposed to right by my lashes.)  I also like the twist up feature--no pencil sharpener needed here.  The last time I purchased eyeliner, I got the intense eyeliner in black in addition to my usual really black quickliner.  And it is even more AMAZING!  It glides on even easier than the original quickliner!  It's supposed to give you a more intense liquid liner look.  The liner actually has a little bit of sheen to it.  I can't wait to try out the other colors.

My rating?

♥♥♥♥♥= AMAZING true love

Your Face ❤ Double Up 206

These are Ardell's Double Up fake lashes #206.  I love them!  They are too long for my eyes so I have to trim an entire section (one small bunch and one large bunch).  Trim from the outer end of the lash.  The lashes are double up lashes so they are thicker than normal fake lashes.  This set has alternating small bunches of lashes and are super long.

At the cinema ❤ Brave

This was a cute movie with excellent graphics.  But I need to learn to stop reading reviews before I go to the movies because then I can't help thinking about the review when I'm watching the movie.  Basically, I would say this is a good movie, not a great movie.  I agree with the People magazine reviewer that the storyline could have been better.  (But the People magazine reviewer thought there shouldn't have even been a witch... I mean it's Disney.  What are fairytales made of if not witches?  I just would have liked the story to move me more.)  The graphics were flawless and the scenes absolutely beautiful.  And I wouldn't have minded a bit of a love story... although, I liked that this movie was more focused on the main character getting to determine her own fate.

Spotted ❤ It's summer OFFICIAL

It is actually summer, it really is!
And yes, my sunglasses are cheap - you can see they were made in china, but that way I don't feel guilty wearing them in the pool!

Purple is not really my favorite color anymore... just one of them.  But I still love it!  Supposedly, people who like purple are artistic? :)

Spotted ❤ A birthday picnic

And we didn't even get rained out...
My friend Sarah had her annual birthday picnic!  And I could go on and on about how it's the end of June and we still didn't have nice sunny weather, but I know I live in Oregon and this is the price I pay for the beautiful green, right?  And how fabulous is her shark cake?!?

She also had the coolest favors.  This was a ring that also had a velcro ball game.  I played the game until I broke it.  (Don't worry I'm going to fix it.  The velcro came off the ring, but it can definitely be glued back on.)
And of course I had to give Sarah a birthday owl!

Make & Take ❤ Wire Wrapped Roses

I made wire wrapped rose ring for my mom and cousins who are visiting from Arizona.  I used 20 gauge wire and it looked great, but it was a little hard to manipulate.  I learned to make the ring using 22 or 24 gauge wire, which I would recommend because it was easier to twist.  I definitely have some learning to do with wire jewelry, but I definitely love the possibilities.  I ordered my wire from Parawire.  I did some research online and it seemed to be one of the best available.  I was concerned about the color flaking off the colored wire.
