A crocheting first, my very first item of clothing!

I love to crochet and have made a lot of items over the years.  Hundreds of scarves would not be an exaggeration.  But this was a BIG first.  My first actual item of crochet clothing.  I typically like to do smaller project like accessories or little animals.  I like projects that I can finish.  But making my first crochet shrug was pretty awesome!  Yes, it took a lot longer than little projects, but I'm sure happy with the final result.  It was a little tricky, but I think I'm off to a great start with creating more wearable art of the clothing variety. :)

I also posted some other new items in my etsy shop, yup you guessed it - scarves!  But these are not just any old scarves... these are toast scarves, which are kind of awesome.

And now I'm working on another crochet shrug that will be a little nautical...

MIZCHE does a baby shower

Baby shower time.  It's a boy!

One of my coworkers is having a baby boy in September.  Baby showers are the perfect time for MIZCHE to put our hooks to the yarn and make a cute little gift.

For a boy, it was a kitty hat in dark blue with white accents.

And of course this gift would not be complete with out booties to match!  (The booties were a little tricky and ended up slightly different sizes.  A little stretching helped out a lot!)

You can take any slouchy hat pattern and change it up with some colorful stripes!  I think the more variety the better.

Make & Take ♥ Crochet Corset Style Fingerless Mittens

This is a pair of corset style fingerless mittens.  I adjusted a pattern for fingerless mittens to add space for ribbon.  It takes four times the length of the fingerless mittens to have enough ribbon to create the corset design and tie a bow at the bottom by the wrist.

This is a tiny pig that I crocheted.  I love making little animals.  They are quick, easy and cute.  It's nice to be able to do a project that is easy to finish.  They also make great little gifts.

Flamingo pink head scarf ❤

This is a super fun project for Spring.  It was created using a pattern from the Double Stitch Twins' new book The Crochet Fashionista Workshop.  It's quick, easy and can add a pop of color to your spring wardrobe.  You also use small and large seed beads to create a fun center for the flower motif.  I used small yellow beads and large clear iridescent beads along with white bead thread and a beading needle to sew the center flower design.

Rosey Posey ❤

This is a fun crochet project to make a rose brooch.  You can crochet a big rose and make it whatever size you want!  This one is about 3 inches across.  Next, cut a felt circle and glue it to the back with industrial strength glue (E-6000).  Make sure to let this completely dry (about 24 hours).  Use strong thread to attach the pin to the rose.  Be sure to sew the pin through the felt to the actual rose for a good strong attachment.

Slouchy city ❤

I am in lurve with this slouchy hat pattern.  My inspiration was my brilliant hair stylist who wanted a hat like this. She called it Reggae styled and I had no idea what she was talking about, but then I figured it out and it's great!  After browsing the Internet and failed attempts at finding a pattern online, I found this book at Jo-Ann Fabric.

I usually make the small/medium sized hat.  You will notice there is not much a difference between the small/medium pattern and the medium/large pattern except an extra row of single crochet at the end.  I had to do some adjusting for a smaller head, but it's pretty easy to incorporate more aggressive decreasing in the pattern.  I also had to change the hook size when using Red Heart soft yarn.  Even though it's just a little thinner than Bernat's Super Value yarn, it makes a big difference when you are making the hat.  My head is 23 inches around by my eyebrows and the small/medium fits perfectly.  However, my head is really more of a medium/large.  Please keep in mind my tension is pretty loose when I crochet, so if you crochet more tightly you may need to adjust in a different way.

My favorite thing about this pattern is that it's super easy to make, but looks amazing.  It also incorporates a lot of crocheting in the back loops only which makes a fabulous textured look.  The photos don't do it justice!  You can also create endless combinations of stripe designs with two or more yarn colors.  Make one for yourself and pretty soon you'll be in slouchy heaven.

This crocheted heart tunic was a present from my madre.  It was created with white Red Heart shimmer yarn and pink Debbie Stoller Washable Ewe yarn.  The tunic is super comfy and definitely is a statement garment.  You can also wear it in the opposite direction for another look.

Fabulous Flapper ❤

This flapper hat is a fun crochet pattern.  You can add accents like feather brooches or crocheted roses.  You can also use a pretty button as the accent on the brim.  Get the pattern for Red Heart's Fashionable Flapper and get crocheting!  Pay attention to your gauge, a slightly different yarn can even make a big difference.

Parisian Orange Fingerless Mittens ❤

This is a pair of Red Heart's Parisian Mitts in Red Heart soft yarn orange.  The fingerless mittens are very pretty and add a bit of flare to any outfit.  The pattern is gorgeous, although it can be tricky to keep track of your spot so use a stitch marker.

The wave hats ❤

Here are two examples of Red Heart's Waves-A-Head Crochet pattern.  The gray hat is using Bernat's Super Value yarn.  The yarn is deliciously soft and beautiful at a great price point.  The hat is a little long, but you can actually flip it up for a different look and it still looks cute long.  The bright blue hat is using Vanna's Choice yarn.  There was not enough yarn in one skein to finish the pattern so it's a few rows shorter.  The fit is still great though.  The effect of the raised stitches is really cool.  It looks even better in person.
